"Tangle for Warick"

20 x 20 cm Ink on paper.

I incorporated Warick's tattoo design to individualise it for him. He has a full sleeve design on his arms so the tribal element can be seen on the right had side of this piece.

"Pink and Blue Gerberas"
Mixed media on canvas 50 x 60 cm

I used oil pastel and water colours for this piece.

Thursday 2 May 2013

A bit more work done on this one. I was working on the lower right area. Smoothing out the leaves and defining the edges a bit more.

A collection of Zentagles. 3.5 x 3.5 inches ink pen and pencil on paper.

"Mandala" 22 cm Ink on Paper.

This art work is the prize to promote my face book page My Face Book page I have incorporated elements that interested me to give it more of a unique element. Took me quite a few hours to complete. I work on it most nights for about a week - not sure how long each session lasted though. Perhaps I should start timing my self...

Just launched my competition on Face Book tonight. You can win an original piece of art work done by me. I also have it framed as well.

Check it out here

Here's a bit more work done. As this piece is larger than I have been doing lately it has been progressing slower. It also helps to not bite of more than you can chew at one sitting so to speak....

Tuesday 23 April 2013

Heres a W.I.P. Im doing at the moment. They are some Echeveria succulents from my garden. I'm working in oils on this one. Canvas is 24 x 24 inches.

Monday 22 April 2013

Got a week off my day job. Hopefully I can get complete some of my unfinished works...

Saturday 20 April 2013

Untitled. A3 paper mixed media.

On this piece I used oil pastel, water colour and ink pen.

"Mandala" 12 x 12 inch Acrylic on canvas.

I painted this on black canvas. I found this quite challenging to get the colours to stay bright. I had to paint white down first. It looks a lot better in the flesh so to speak. I have since sold this.

"Cup Cake for Vicky" 10 x 10 inch Acrylic on canvas

A commission for a friend who is really into baking and cupcakes.

"Randall" 12 x 12 inches. Oil on canvas

I named this after Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc simply because someone commented that it looked like that character. It wasn't what I had in mind when I sketched it on the canvas - but it stuck. The background is layers of thinned down paint. I like the effect achieved.

"Present for Kaitlyn" 12 x 12 inch Acrylic on canvas.

As a present for my niece. I used her favourite colours. I enjoyed doing the blue stippled background.
"Untitled" 12 x 12 inches oil on canvas.

From a sketch I had done which I wanted to translate into oil paint.  The straight lines I found challenging and leant a lot about the properties of oil paint. I wanted very bright high chromatic colours for this. Done earlier in 2012.

Untitled. Oil on canvas 60 x 50 cm
This piece was inspired by the work of  Yayoi Kusama. I have a keen interest in pointillism also. I like the interplay of colours with the turquoise over the crimson. It produces a lovely optical effect.

"Trilobite" 12 x 12 inches Oil on canvas.

This was the painting that I started about March 2012 that renewed my interest in oil painting once again. I don't really recall how long it took - but far too long...It was on hold for long periods of time in the cupboard. Until I finally completed it. The idea originally was a doodle I had done which I then committed to canvas. I  found the middle area originally dull so included the eye to challenge myself. I am happy overall with the results but feel the iris of the eye is a little lacking - due to inexperience. I have used this image as my Facebook profile image due to its significance.

A bit about ME

I am a 33 year old male living in Auckland, New Zealand. I live in the West of Auckland located near the Waitakere Ranges. I have spent most of my life here. In my 20's I studied at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design - from which I obtained a diploma. From there I studied at Media Design School and also obtained a diploma in 3D Computer Animation. I freelanced for a time doing various 3D/Illustration projects and commissions. I found this was too sporadic getting work so started working at a copy shop/design business. The company restructured and I was made redundant. So I then went on to work at an aquatic pets store in Auckland for which I'm still currently employed at.  I have recently returned to fine art painting after a long hiatus (many years). I have decided to have another crack at it. I felt something was lacking in my life after not creating art for so many years. In the interim I did occasionally draw and paint but developed an interest in miniature painting. In 2012 I took brush to canvas and started painting again. In the next few days I will be uploading some work that I have done from that time up till the present day. As I'm constantly learning new techniques and styles and trying new ideas. What might follow will probably appear a hodge-podge of ideas. Please bear with me as Im still working through my process and finding out what direction to take with my art.

Thanks for reading
